Draft Brolga Assessment and Mitigation Standard- Nov 2020

The Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Environment is seeking feedback on the Draft Brolga Assessment and Mitigation Standards for wind energy facility permit applications and the draft planning scheme amendment.

Wind farm impacts on the Victorian Brolga population is concerning.

DeFrock understands there has been no successful breeding of Brolga within 5km’s of wind turbines. A reduced buffer zone between turbines and nesting wetlands would likely result in the extinction of the Southern Brolga due to increased fatal collision risk with turbines, powerlines and from displacement from breeding wetlands.
