NTAG Appeal
28/02/25
Dear Supporters
The show-down is about to commence with the culmination of over five years of challenging the proposal and expressing our concerns about the significant detrimental environmental and human impacts of the St Patricks Plains Wind Farm. With your help we have amassed many reports, photographic evidence, statements and compelling data to support our case. We are very thankful for everyone’s contributions to allow us to get to this stage.
The No Turbine Action Group Inc (NTAG) appeal against the approval of the St Patricks Plains Wind Farm will be heard at the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TasCAT). The hearing dates have been set aside for seven days Monday 17th to Tuesday 25th March; however, it is not expected that the hearings will extend more than 3 days.
The grounds of appeal are that the height (231m) and number of turbines (47) for the project will unreasonably impact the amenity and use of the adjoining neighbours’ properties and that the project does not comply with particular noise guidelines.
NTAG’s expert witnesses, L Huson (Noise) and H Goess (Planning) have submitted their witness statements to the panel, as have the witnesses for the respondents, the Central Highlands Council, Korea Zinc/Ark Energy (St Patricks Plains Wind Farm Pty Ltd) and the Environment Protection Authority. The witness statements have been circulated to all parties in preparation for cross examining the evidence during the hearing.
It is hoped that members will provide ‘a show of support’ by attending one or more of the hearing sessions at the tribunal. It is important that the panel observes that there are many who believe this project is ill conceived and in the wrong place. If you are unable to attend in person, it is likely that the hearing may be live-streamed. NTAG will provide a link when and if it becomes available.
TasCAT is located at 38 Barrack St HOBART. Information about TasCAT can be found at: https://www.tascat.tas.gov.au/resource-and-planning/home
NTAG’s team is highly competent and very well prepared and acknowledge that Ark Energy has engaged a powerful defence team. We have given everything to help Keep Tasmania’s Highlands Unique and can reasonably expect a successful outcome.
It is likely that there could be a budget shortfall, particularly if the length of the hearing is more than expected. Any further donations would be gratefully received.
Kind regards
NTAG Team
